Concrete grinding and polishing is the way to an impressive and beautiful polished concrete floor! It is a multi-step process requiring use of the proper tools and equipment to making your surface look great. To help you get started, here's a brief overview of the polishing process and a checklist of basic equipment.
Prepare the things you may need:
Concrete floor grinder
Metal bonded diamond grit discs - 30, 80, ad 150
Resin bonded diamond discs - 100 to 3000
Safety glasses
Dust mask
Hard drying filler or cement epoxy
Cement hardener
Before polishing, make sure you wear safety equipment to prevent any accidents.
Starting the process, fit the diamond grit discs to your grinder and remove the existing coatings. Coarse grit is more effective at getting rid of stubborn stains and rough areas on the floor surface. Start with 30 grit discs and end up with a 150 grit disc to achieve the desired results.
Finally, polish the floor with resin-bonded diamond discs again starting with a 100 grit disc and then with 400 grit, 800 grit and so on. For maximum sheen use up to 3000 grit discs. At this point, any staining or blemishes should be totally gone, so this pass is all about getting a beautiful finish. Remember that higher the grit number, the finer the abrasive.
